Introduction and Italian Baurs
« am: 28 November, 2025, 09:16 »
Hello Fellow 02ers,

Unfortunately, I am not a German speaker, but I understand the club has and continues to attract and welcome a growing number of members beyond Germany, so I thought I’d join and say G’day from Italy.

Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Nathan and I’m an Australian 02er living in Umbria, Italy. I wouldn’t say I’m a big car person as such; I just love 02s. I can still clearly remember the day I saw my first 02 in Australia in the mid-1990s. Fast forward 30 years, and the passion remains with a couple of 02s in my garage in Italy. My penchant is for Lux and Targa Baur 02s in their factory-delivered paint colours, with a particular sweet spot for the ’71 and '72 Baur-painted Targas in Condor-Gelb. I have German, Dutch, and Italian delivered 02s…but all and more are welcome ;).

I’m looking forward to continuing to read and learn from all the expertise and individual stories posted on the forum, and at some point, joining some club events. I’d also be very interested to hear from any 02 members living in or around central Italy.

Two of my Italian-delivered Baurs - ’72 Condor-Gelb and ’73 Fjord.

Kind regards
Nathan

Hello Nathan,

welcome to the forum! How does an australian guy get to Italy? For me, Australia is kind of out-of-this-world and I only know one ex- working colleague who spent some years in germany and then returned to work for GM over there, but I know that there are many many car-crazy guys with a lot of passion. Italy is very nice for vacation, but I only made it to the northern part a few times - Lago Maggiore with my E30 covertible was a great experience. So those 2 Baurs are not your only 02s? Would you like to share photos of the rest also? Are you doing restoration work and maintainance on your own or do you have a nearby specialized garage over there? I am very keen on those italian alloys and magnesium wheels like Campagnolos and would like to ha a set of those for my golf tii, too. But hard to get in germany and quite expensive. How is the market in italy?
I had 4 02s in the 1990s as daily drivers and kept the best one as a neverending project, started 1992 and not finished yet, but I was crazy enough to also buy another "hopeless" project, a `68 2000tilux Neue Klasse. Some work stored for my retirement times...

white and blue greetings from the middle-west of Germany, near Clogne!
Michael

Salve Nathan,
we've been in touch some years ago, I think, I was lucky helping you with some parts for a rectangle tail tii, do I remember right? If anytime you need something, don`t hesitate to get in touch again.
A la prossima volta

Hello Michael,
Thank you for your warm welcome and greetings from mid-west Germany.

Touring northern Italy, in and around the lake area, would be fantastic in an E30 convertible. You sound like you have your hands full with great future projects to keep you going Michael. I hope you post some photos.

The ‘02 market in Italy is a bit of a strange one, in my view. The ‘02s here for sale are comparatively and generally a little overpriced, I would say. Particularly considering the current ‘02 market dip in Europe. There are always a few ‘02s around the country for sale (Baurs included). Italy also seems to be a favourite hunting ground for a certain Dutch BMW restoration company, which still manages to find a lot of original Italian '02 gems 😉.

I’m lucky enough to also have a Fjord Tii Lux (Dutch delivered), an Automatic Mintgrun Lux with power steering (German delivered), and a Black Series Lux (Italian delivered). I also have a ’71 and a ’73 Baur in need of full restoration. Unfortunately, I recently had an unpleasant experience with poor workmanship on a part ‘02 restoration I had done in the Netherlands (not the same company referred to above), so I’m waiting until I have a little more time on my hands before I embark on at least one of the Baur restoration candidates.

….arrgh, yes, the Italian Campagnolo wheels, some of my favourites for the ’02. They do come up for sale here occasionally. There is a company in northern Italy that reproduces Campags (CNC production), but they are not cheap. I do have a set of 7J Campagnolo Millerighe wheels, but I don’t have an ’02 to fit them on…yet. ;)

Kind regards
Nathan

.... I hope you post some photos...

Hi Nathan,

thanks a lot for the beautiful pictures of those amazing wheels! Maybe you like to explore my little homepage for some photos, not only from my Ex- and current cars and projects, but also for photos of car-meets, mainly from the 1990s?

Check out www.nullzwotii.de

white and blue greetings,

Hi Nathan, I think the Repop Campys are not really overpriced ok they are not cheap but for billet wheels I think it's ok. But if not in 7x13 they look wrong as the 5 and 5.5  (on the Car) have a (slightly) different look.
The 6x14 (the 6 on the Floor) also look different.

Uli

Hallo Wolf,

Yes, you are correct. We were in touch a few years ago. Not for Tii parts, but you helped me with a set of bottle cap FPS wheels and some information and photos on Black Series and Lux '02s. Danke. I am looking for a few Baur and Lux parts and will reach out to you via PM.

Kind regards
Nathan
