wheels for '72 2002tii

For my 2002tii I want a larger (14") size wheel, as the current 13" wheels prove very difficult to find tyres for. They are now fitted with 185x70x13, but it's difficult to find good quality / sticky race tyres, like Yokohama A008R or similar in that size. I have tried the steel wheels from the E30, but offset is wrong. The offset for the 2002tii is 28 to 30mm I believe. Can anybody please advise re the correct offset and maybe whether 14" wheels (steel OK)from another brand, eg. Golf, Peugot 205 / 309, Saab, Fiat, Alfa, may have same or similar offset and fit. New Alpinas or Schitzers would be very nice , but too expensive. Or does anybody have some good second hand ones for sale>

Thank you and kind regards, Frans de Court, Auckland, New Zealand.

Hello!

Considering original look and feeling, there you should stick to the original tyres as well. Michelin for example delivers excellent new tyres with the old look of the XWX in dimension 185/70HR 13. The rubber mixture is the latest technology, just the look is the old one. Great (but not really cheap). Driving with good (new) shock absorbers like Bilstein will help to let you enjoying it.

If you intend to leave the ground of original look for semi-competition purpose, then consider 15 inch rims. Those are very common in 7x15 with offset 20mm. Usually that is fine with 195/50-15 which is common and cheap as well. Maybe you should have a very stiff suspension and shock absorber as well to match with the much harder tyres' wall.

Good luck

Wolfgang
