Nurnburgring visit on Friday 18 May
« am: 22 März, 2001, 06:05 »

Dear 2002 friends.I am coming over from New Zealand for a couple of weeks in mid May. Traveling with my colleague who drives / races a TR7V8. Besides business, we have planned to be at the Nurnburgring on Friday the 18th of May. We will be driving around in our "1600cc rental car". We would love to meet up with somebody from the 02 Club on the day and just talk cars and/or drive together. Please advise if you can make it and / or also if you can suggest any inexpensive hotels in the area; approx DM50 - 100 p/room.
I have sent a fax to the Berghotel in Adenau, but todate have not received a reply!>>  Also I do have a competition license and have done some club racing in my previous 635CSi and in four Targa Ralleys, but would be interested to drive around the track with somebody experienced or an instructor. However on the web I have only come accros lessons for the whole day. Any suggestions or advise>
Looking forward to your reply.

Dear Frans

Here are a couple of links for you to look at the first is the official Nuerburgring site which is also available in English and shows when the Nordschleife is open to the Public - 18th May from 14:15 to 17:30. There is also a lint to the Renn-taxi - which I have never used but the written reports I have seen have been positive. Maybe someone out there has first hand experience.

This second is probably what you looked at but does have an excellent list of Hotels and accommodation. As to not getting a reply from the Hotel - often normal many are closed or go into Hibernation over the winter - if you need translation assistance I can call the Hotel for you.

If you are in the area the week before there is a Historic Race Weekend at Spa - around another hours drive from the 'Ring. If you want to go keep in touch as we will be there.

Regards

Aidan Watt

Dear Aidan
Thanks v much for yr reply. Have since had reply from Berghotel in Adenau, which comes with a very good recommendation from UK drivers ...
I already visited the website of Oliver Grams and will email him too to see if I can just do a couple of laps with him, since there is only little time. I saw on the official Nurnbergring website that it's open on the 18th May from 2.15 to 7.30pm; we'll see. Sorry, but can't attend Spa; would love to though, as I have often seen it in the English magazines.
Thanks again for all yr help; 'you guys' have a great website. Regards, Frans
